It was just an ordinary day, except for the fact that we are scheduled for our internship’s orientation. We decided to go at the nearby mall to grab some lunch. I was talking to my classmate when suddenly, I saw you in the corner of my eye. It was like an earthquake; the kind that not everyone is expecting. You came along and my heart was captured unaware.
You were tall and lean with a quiet, gentle masculinity that came through boldly. I was at first smitten and then immediately felt something much deeper.
You sat a few tables away from us. I can’t help but look at you and noticed that you have a chinky pair of eyes. I had a glance of it when you took off your glasses. You seem to be tired of something because you kept on taking them off and skimming your notebook. Perhaps it’s because of a homework that you still have to do or an appointment you are too nervous to meet.
Moments later, you stood up. My gaze followed you to the nearby fast food chain. I talked to one of my friends and when I looked for you again, you’re already gone.
“That tree used to hold me. Keeping me intact and making sure I won’t loosen my grip,” said the leaf.
“Then what happened?" asked the stone.
“Fall came. He said he said we need to pave way for further growth. So he let go of me." answered the leaf.
“That’s sad.” the stone replied.
“I know, but look at him now; carefully holding something new and on its full bloom. I guess that one right there is much better than a simple looking leaf, which is me.”
Maybe a lot of you here have already had boyfriends or girlfriends and experienced a heart-shattering break-up until eventually got another guy or girl again.
What if your new guy or girl had a love before you? What are you going to do? Are you going to compare yourself to him or her? Are you going to try to put up some kind of competition between the two of you?
I know some people who do that. They even cyber stalk the ex lover of their present partner. They will search for their partner’s ex girlfriend’s account all over the internet. Lucky of them if their partner’s ex has a blog or online journal. Stalking will become easier especially when all of the accounts are linked there.
I don’t know how and why some people who do that thing find comfort in it. It will become their habit to click, click, click and discover. If they found something that the ex does, they will try to imitate. They will try harder until they reach their level, or if they are really persistent, they will top them.
Why waste time and energy dwelling on your partner’s past? Why do such an enormous effort to keep tabs about his or her life and try to top what they do? Are you threatened by it? Do you really want to know what books she read, places she went and what she do on her past times? Do you want to know if they make bad decisions in their lives and they are prone to failures? The answer is yes, of course! They are normal people as you. The only difference is that they are trying to establish and live with their own identity while you, by what you are doing, are becoming THEIR SHADOW.
Here’s a piece of advice. Instead of cyber stalking and comparing and topping your partner’s ex, why not trust him? Do you really love each other? Why feel threatened? Instead of doing what their ex is doing, why not establish your own persona? Doesn’t it come to you, the thought that while you are imitating the ex, you are helping your partner to remember him or her? When your partner saw something you did and it resembles what the ex did, your partner will be like… “I knew someone who does that. Oh yes, her/him.”
So dear, stop that habit before it eats you. Because in the end, you’ll be the one who might suffer.

The day of Oct. 4, before going to our girlfriend sister’s condo, Twinny and I got one thing in our bucketlist crossed out! This time, together with our dear friend, Hesi. :-)
But before reaching KFB, we’ve been through quite an adventure! Haha. Since we don’t know the directions on how to go there, we did some asking and voila! Rode a jeepney that is route to Boni Mandaluyong, and we told the driver to drop us at San Joaquin St.
When we reached San Joaquin St. we don’t know which way to go. From where we got off, we turned right and asked a pedicab driver where KFB is located. We’re on the wrong direction, so we came back to where the jeepney driver dropped us off and continued walking.
Look what Twinny did to Park because of exhaustion in carrying her not-so-heavy bag. Haha!
When you’ll visit the place this month, probably you will still encounter this. This is also the reason why we had a hard time finding KFB.
After passing all those road repairs, we finally saw KFB! At first, you’ll not notice the place since it just looked like a small sari-sari store and a typical carinderia. Also, there are no visible signage that can help you to locate it.
But don’t be deceive by the carinderia vibes of this eatery for they’ll let you experience your most unforgettable food-trip!
It was a hot sunny noon and thank goodness the crew of the store quickly offered us a water full of ice. Their tables are good enough for two people but an extra chair can be added so three can share. When going there with big groups, you can combine tables or ask for extras. Fortunately, we’re the only customer dining at that time, since some opted to take their orders out or they chose to eat at the extended store. In which you’re not in the street. As for us, we want to feel the “kanto” vibes so we stayed outside.
Their menu is quite simple and mostly, breakfast meals like pancakes, eggs benedict and silogs are offered. Hence, the name. But since it was lunch time, Hesi a.k.a Hanibunch and I decided to have rice meals while Twinny ordered mixed berries pancake.
You’ll have to wait for quite some time because they’ll prepare and cook your order. As it was served, you’ll be surprised on the plating. I swear by looking at the meal served right in front of you, you will forget that you are eating in an eatery located in the streets. It will be as if you’re dining in a fancy restaurant.
I ordered Honey Garlic Chicken (PHP90.00)
Twinny’s. Mixed Berries Pancake (PHP90.00)
Hanibunch’s. Batangas Beef Tapa (PHP90)
I was able to try the ones that Hanibunch and Twinny ordered and it was heavenly. As well as what I ordered, the honey garlic chicken. My favorite of them all was the mixed berries pancake. The feels when eating it! It was like there are fireworks in my mouth. When we get back, I’ll surely try other foods in their menu!
Kanto Freestyle Breakfast is located at San Joaquin St. Boni, Mandaluyong City. Their other branches are in Marikina and Kapitolyo, Pasig. They accept deliveries anywhere in the Metro, call them at 4002268. They also have a facebook, twitter and instagram account! Oha, so not your typical kanto eatery. ;-)
